How to Get IEC (Importer Exporter Code)

An IEC (Importer Exporter Code) is a mandatory 10-digit alpha-numeric code required for any individual or entity in India engaged in import or export activities. The process to obtain an IEC code is fairly straightforward and can be done online through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) website.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

Step 1. Visit the DGFT website: https://www.dgft.gov.in/

Step 2. Click on "Services": You'll find this tab on the homepage.

Step 3. Select "IEC Profile Management": This will open a new page with options for applying for and managing your IEC.

Step 4. Choose "Apply for IEC": You'll be directed to a registration page.

Step 5. Register or Login:

New Users: Click on "Register" and enter your details. You'll receive an OTP to verify your mobile number.
Existing Users: If you already have an account, enter your login credentials.

6. Complete the Application Form: Fill in the required information accurately, including details about your business entity, bank account, and PAN card.

7. Submit Documents: Upload scanned copies of your PAN card, bank account details, and any other relevant documents.

8. Pay the Fee: An online payment gateway allows you to pay the application fee (currently Rs.500).

9. Submit Application: Once everything is filled and verified, click "Submit Application".

10. Verification and Issuance: DGFT will verify your application and documents. If approved, your IEC code will be issued within 10 working days. You can track the application status online.

Additional Points

GSTIN Integration: If you have a GSTIN, you can use it instead of applying for a separate IEC code.
Printing IEC Certificate: After receiving your IEC code, you can download and print the certificate from the DGFT website.
Professional Assistance: Consider seeking help from a professional if you require assistance with the application process or have any specific questions.
